Jep & Joy Art Show!
The Richmond County Arts Council presents an art show featuring the work of the late W.J. (Jep) Atkinson and his daughter Joy Atkinson McGugan. The opening reception is this Friday (April 13) from 5 – 7pm.
Jep and his wife Johnsie Pate lived in Hamlet for many years. He managed TranSouth for years before retiring and opening Jep Atkinson Auto and Truck Sales. Although a businessman by day, he was an artist at heart. He created sculptures using wood, bronze, clay, and stone.
Joy Atkinson McGugan graduated from Richmond Senior High School and received art degrees from the University of NC at Pembroke. She taught art in the public schools of Robeson County and retired a few years ago. She mainly creates paintings and drawings using a variety of media. Most of her work has a sentimental attachment and features family, friends and assorted pets. Some of the works presented include her dad or some of his work.
